What Happened on That First Night
As we sat in a circle, all 15 of us on a dirty floor with our backs leaning against the wall in a dimly lit room, we listened to Micah’s heart for this new ministry center. He shared how this would be a place for all of us and that more than a Bible Study, it would serve as a home for us as a family to be with our brothers and sisters in Christ. He reminded us of Acts 4 and that we would be known as followers by our love for each other.
Then he and Melissa shared a few of their many ideas for the ministry center which includes a counseling center, job skills training center, community center where kids can get off the streets and learn dance, jiu-jitsu, English, etc, and much more. It was beautiful to see how excited the people were about these new ideas and opportunities. Already, we could feel the community growing closer as we now had a common vision and goal.
Several people also shared about the work God has been doing in their lives through Micah and Melissa’s ministry.
Jose, the owner of House of Raw, shared about how God had put this building on his heart long ago. He shared the story of how God had shown him this building many years ago when he was looking to open his studio, but a church rented it first. Eventually, that church left and the building was again vacant. A few months later during a conversation with Micah, Jose was reminded of this building and the feeling he had that it would be used for ministry someday. That is when Micah and Melissa decided to take a look at the building for the first time.
Luis also shared about how he has known Micah for a long time and how he has learned so much from the way Micah shares the love of Christ through dancing.
It was powerful to hear about the testimony that Micah and Melissa have been to the community here. Over and over again, all the testimonies led back to one idea – that they are excited to take this next step with Micah and Melissa because of the way their lives point to Christ.
