Restoring Relationships with Oneself
Established in 2015, with a few ladies from the local community in a small office, The Refuge began counseling and walking with new moms through uncertain times. Some of our clients are victims of tragic situations while others are fearful couples who don't know how to economically support their growing family.
Today, our center counsels over 50 women from communities all over the Central Valley of Costa Rica using a unique approach to offering a "hand up" vs a "hand out"
When someone walks through trauma, they need to know they are not alone and get help navigating their way back to a healthy place. Our method is simple. It brings a group of people together in a safe environment, where they can help each other heal. It is a holistic and Bible-based approach to helping people heal from trauma that recognizes that trauma affects every part of a person: mind, body and spirit. The lessons use art, stories, activities and questions to help people engage deeply with themselves, with God, and with each other.
Thousands of books have been written on parenting. It's an extremely hot topic. Our Parenting & Pancakes group strives to bring these families together from similar communities and cultures to share tips with each other that have been successful. Many have similar stories and can relate to various conditions and issues that show up. The women also share their skills in various workshops with one another, which restores dignity and value and reminds them that they all have something to offer.
